Ben has been painting and exhibiting for 30 years in both oil and watercolour, showing regularly throughout that time in a variety of outlets, including 20 solo shows, the last in Pall Mall, London in 2019. His paintings are currently available in a number of commercial galleries in the UK. He is based near Canterbury in Kent.  He is a Past President of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, having previously served as a Council Member and Vice-President for that Society.  Having studied History of Art to ‘A’ level, he pursued a career in law for 30 years whilst continually painting and exhibiting, finally making the happy break to become a full-time artist in 2018.  Painting was always a treasured and consistent activity which he kept on with throughout his legal career.  As to working methods, Ben enjoys painting en plein air as well as in the studio. His passion for painting has taken him to all parts of the UK and further afield to France, Morocco, Egypt, India and a particular favourite, Italy.  Whether cityscape or open landscape, he enjoys the challenge of endeavouring to convey light and atmosphere, attempting to grasp something of the quality of ozone in skies and the liquid nature of water with the possibilities of all its myriad reflections. He is also drawn to the rigour of architecture, together with human movement and activity and the occasional still life or flower piece.  His work is held in private and corporate collections in the UK and abroad. He has written for the Artist Magazine. Additionally, he has provided the cover illustrations for 3 award winning books.
