The friends of the ROI program will offer you the opportunity to keep up-to-date with the Institute via newsletters, painting days and ROI master classes held around the country. As a friend you will be supporting the society in its remit to encourage and promote the oil medium within the field of contemporary art. There is an annual subscription of £30. For your subscription :

Picnic and paint day in London (Hyde Park), August 2023

Members of the ROI met with ROI Friends in Hyde Park on 12th August for a fun day out at the Serpentine – dodging showers to paint and picnic together. This annual event is a firm favourite on the ROI Friends calendar giving them a chance to mingle with members and pick up a few top tips on how to work en plein air, as well as connecting with each other in one of the biggest event of the year. ROI president Adebanji Alade introduced everyone and also gave some wonderful feedback on the work at the end of the day. 

Manchester paint out event, July 2023

What a fantastic day we had at the Manchester ROI Paint Out 2023 in Manchester. The paint out was hosted by ROI members Michael Ashcroft, Rob Pointon and Associate member Adam Ralston. The turnout was amazing considering the weather but there was some fabulous work produced. Quite a few braved it out to the wetter end and we all had a well earned pint in the pub afterwards.

Picnic and paint day in London (Green Park), July 2021

A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all in Green Park, London. Members present included Linda Alexander, Roger Dellar, Tim Benson, Adebanji Alad, Amanda Coleman and Roger Ferrin.

Wortley Hall in South Yorkshire provided a stunning backdrop for a paint out. ROI members attending included David Curtis, Andrew Farmer, Haidee-Jo Summers and Michael Ashcroft.

At Linda’s studio in Old Isleworth, Middlesex.  STILL LIFE PAINTING IN OIL This was a wonderful opportunity to paint with Linda and learn some new methods. 

Plein air and BBQ day with Roger Dellar ROI, May 2019

A plein air landscape painting day exclusively for ROI members and friends at the Devils Punchbowl /Hindhead Common in Surrey in May. The sociable painting day concluded with a BBQ at Roger’s studio, kindly hosted by Roger and his wife Lyn.

Painting workshop at Morston Quay, Norfolk, July 2019

The ROI and IEA are joined together to run a painting day at Morston on the North Norfolk Coast. Morston is a small village on the North Norfolk Coast west of Blakeney. Haidee-Jo-Summers ROI, Brian Ryder ROI IEA, Graham Webber ROI IEA, Bob Brandt IEA , Mo Teeuw IEA and Jane Hodgson were on hand throughout the day to offer help and tuition.

Visit to the studio of Naomi Alexander ROI, July 2019

We have an opportunity for a small group of friends of the ROI to visit the studio of member Naomi Alexander in the Kenwood area of Hampstead. The stunning museum and gardens of Kenwood House are nearby so you may like to spend the day exploring the local attractions before going on to the studio where you will be welcomed by Naomi. The nearest tube station is East Finchley.

Plein air painting workshop with John Walsom ROI, October 2019

Held at St James’ park in London, experienced plein air painter John started the day with a demo and offered advice as friends painted their own work.
