My work is deeply personal and very close to home. I mean this in the literal sense as I work at home and I paint what is around me. Having moved recently and gained the delight that is a small English garden, I have spent the spring and summer watching flowers come into bloom. It was very beautiful out there but I still had the desire to bring the flowers inside the house to capture them in paint. My collection of objects and fabrics, like a cast of characters waiting for their turn, are photographed, arranged and curated. My family and close friends are ongoing patient and generous subject matter.
Life to me is very much about the small things: if we can take pleasure in those then we are fortunate. I love to paint and I try to portray quiet daily events that, in the frantic way life is lived, can often be missed – small, introspective moments, recorded and thus given importance.
