ROI Education Outreach – Andrew Farmer ROI at Richmond Hill Primary School
Andrew Farmer ROI has been continuing the brilliant ROI educational outreach work with schools and gave two talks to pupils at the Richmond Hill Primary School, Sprotbrough, Doncaster on May 20th.

The talks were delivered to year 5 classes and since it was a careers day talk Andrew took the kids on a journey from his childhood, college, uni to the present day. He explained some of the challenges artists face, things like what to paint, braving the elements painting outdoors and working with galleries.

Andrew took in a number of props, including his box easel, palette of wet paint, tubes of paint, brushes/palette knives etc. and showcased an original painting, comparing it to one of his limited edition prints. Andrew talked about the importance of drawing and passed around one of his current working sketchbooks. Andrew also took in the medal from the ROI to pass around, they loved that!

Pupils were encouraged to draw outdoors in the coming week, and to be playful with art materials, and to use colour as much as possible. Andrew also donated 2 watercolour tin sets for the teachers to select two students that have shown real enthusiasm in their creativity. The students were featured in a local magazine (image shown below) with the watercolour tins and the school gave Andrew a mention thanking him for participating in the careers day.
